Removal of nail enhancements at home

Removing your nail enhancements correctly is an important part of maintaining healthy, strong nails.

  1. File through the topcoat – This part is very important as acetone will struggle to get through the topcoat. But please don’t do this while you’re watching tv or you may file a little too much.
  2.  File the free edge to continue to help break through the topcoat. I recommend shortening the nails a bit aswell as they will not be as strong as they are when they have an enhancement on.
  3.  Find something you can put acetone on, ideally a cotton ball but if you need, get creative! A makeup round cut in half, a few little squares of a handy towel, see what you can find.
  4.  If you have tinfoil cut it into a 4 or 5 cm square, place the acetone-soaked cotton ball onto the nail and use the tinfoil to secure it to the nail. You’ll want to leave this for a good 10 minutes. If you don’t have tinfoil or similar, you can pour a small amount of acetone into a bowl and soak your nails that way.
  5.  When the polish starts to peel up from the nail, it is ready for a gentle scrape to get it off. For this step if you don’t have a cuticle pusher you could try a teaspoon. You may need to repeat this step a few times, especially with acrylic or sns.
  6. Once the gel is removed give your nails a gentle buff and apply cuticle oil.
